Dedicated to professional development and adherence to the
highest standards of medical/nursing ethics, Dr. Slaven began her nursing career with the completion of a BSN degree from
the University of Maine in 1999. She continued at the University of Maine where she finished her Master’s (MSN) degree
and achieved certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. While completing
her doctoral (DNP) work at Case Western Reserve University she maintained a successful Internal Medicine Practice on the coast
of rural Maine. She has, through her experiences as both student and nursing instructor, amassed significant clinical skills,
and holds profound respect and understanding for:
- scientific
underpinnings for practice;
- advanced nursing practice;
- organization and system leadership/management, quality improvement and system thinking;
- analytic methodologies related to the evaluation of practice
and the application of evidence for practice;
- utilization
of technology and information for the improvement and transformation of healthcare;
- health policy development, implementation and evaluation; and
- interdisciplinary collaboration for improving patient and population healthcare outcomes.
Dr. Slaven-Lee is also currently an Assistant Professor at Graduate School of Nursing,
Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, in Bethesda, Maryland.
